Do we really need to explain the concept behind the "Bistrots de Cuisiniers"? Character, values, ambitions: it's all there in the name! A Bistrot de Cuisinier is a gourmet restaurant with a warm atmosphere and a true professional keeping a watchful eye from the wings. A Bistrot de Cuisinier is quite simply the promise of a pleasant time and a delicious meal.
The brand name "Bistrots de Cuisinier" was created in 1996, but its origins date back much further. In fact it was at the end of the 1980s that Jean-Paul Lacombe sketched the initial outlines of the concept. As the son of a great family of master-chefs in Lyon, the man has a passion for cooking. It is to him that we owe the Bistrot de Lyon, one of the city's most popular venues. But the young chef showed his real talent at the family restaurant, the Léon de Lyon. Since it had been around for almost a century, it was already an institution! He was to turn it into a must-visit restaurant: today it is still the only restaurant in central Lyon with two Michelin stars - and has been for the last 20 years!
In 1989, building on his reputation, the chef opened a second restaurant alongside the first: Le Petit Léon. He thought of it at the time as an attractive, friendly place to eat, "a neighbourhood restaurant for the locals".
The idea was a great success and Jean-Paul Lacombe decided to bring his four restaurants together under a single brand: the "Bistrots de Cuisiniers", to which a number of other gourmet restaurants – each one a delight - would be added later. Today the "Bistrots de Cuisiniers" consist of seven restaurants, all located in Lyon and the surrounding area.
